Iowa Lions Eye Bank is seeking dependable and motivated Recovery Technicians to support our mission of restoring and preserving sight. This is not a transport or courier position. Recovery Technicians perform hands‑on clinical work involving the surgical recovery of human ocular tissue for transplant, research, and education.
Recovery Technicians, based out of our Altoona office, work independently and travel to hospitals, funeral homes, and medical examiner offices in the Western Iowa area. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: verifying authorization, confirming the identity of the donor, completing donor physical assessments, preparing the donor, obtaining an adequate blood sample, performing whole eye enucleation or in situ corneal excision, using proper aseptic technique, packaging ocular tissue for transport, and completing all required documentation. A small team rotates on‑call shifts to provide 24/7 coverage. (0000-0800, 0800-1600, and 1600-0000).
A University of Iowa background check is required.
