Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee day-to-day ocean freight operations across import and export shipments
• Lead, motivate, and develop the ocean operations team
• Manage full shipment lifecycle from booking through to final delivery and billing
• Oversee ocean bookings, documentation, tracking, arrival notices, delivery coordination, and invoicing
• Ensure shipments are handled accurately and efficiently per customer requirements
• Monitor shipment issues and resolve operational problems
• Build relationships with carriers, overseas agents, and customers
• Negotiate and manage ocean freight rates and service levels as needed
• Monitor KPIs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability
• Collaborate with sales and pricing to support quotations and new business opportunities
• Assist with customer escalations and provide solutions to complex operational issues
• Ensure compliance with regulations and company policies

Ocean Freight Manager | Dallas, Texas | Salary up to $105,000

This is a key management position for an experienced freight forwarding professional with a strong background in ocean import and export operations, team leadership, customer service, and operational performance.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring shipments are handled efficiently from A-Z while leading the ocean operations team and maintaining strong relationships with customers, carriers, overseas offices, and service providers.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the day-to-day ocean freight operations across import and export shipments
• Lead, motivate, and develop the ocean operations team
• Manage the full shipment lifecycle from booking through to final delivery and billing
• Oversee ocean bookings, documentation, tracking, arrival notices, delivery coordination, and invoicing
• Ensure shipments are handled accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with customer requirements
• Monitor shipment exceptions and proactively resolve operational issues
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with steamship lines, NVOCCs, trucking companies, overseas agents, and customers
• Negotiate and manage ocean freight rates and service levels where required
• Monitor operational KPIs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability
• Work closely with sales and pricing teams to support customer quotations and new business opportunities
• Assist with customer escalations and provide solutions to complex operational issues
• Ensure compliance with company policies, customs requirements, and international shipping regulations
• Support the implementation and improvement of operational processes and procedures
• Provide management with regular updates on operational performance, staffing, and key issues

Requirements

• 5+ years of ocean freight forwarding experience
• Previous experience in an ocean operations management or supervisory role
• Strong knowledge of ocean import and export processes
• Proven experience managing and developing an operations team
• Strong understanding of international freight forwarding procedures and documentation
• Experience working with steamship lines, NVOCCs, trucking providers, and overseas agents
• Strong customer service and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced freight forwarding environment
• Experience with CargoWise or a similar freight forwarding system is highly preferred
• Strong knowledge of U.S. import/export requirements and ocean freight documentation
