Job summary

Viking is seeking an Assistant Systems Manager to support onboard IT across Ocean vessels. You will assist the Systems Manager in maintaining all IT systems, hardware, cabling, networks, and software, addressing technical issues as they arise.

Responsibilities include user training, daily operational support, and maintaining workstations, servers, and related equipment. The role involves guest tech support and collaboration with leadership to ensure smooth ship operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience with IT systems, end-user support, and operations.
• Degree in Computer Science or related field required with formal IT training.
• Fluent English with excellent written and oral communication; extra language is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide general IT system support for all onboard departments and train users to enhance skills.
• Perform daily IT operations as detailed in Run Books and training materials.
• Support crew to maintain workstations, PCs, POS terminals, cabling, servers and related hardware.
• Respond to user requests during normal hours; extended hours may be needed for critical systems.
• Provide basic user training and support for common PC software and PM software.
• Support guest-facing tech equipment: telephones, TVs, Digital Signage, WiFi, Viking Voyager App.
• Serve as IT Guest liaison to ensure guests are comfortable with Viking IT products.
• Keep Leadership Team informed of IT issues and policies affecting ship operations.

Role Overview

• Part of our Hotel Administration team on our Ocean vessels, the Assistant Systems Manager assists the Systems Manager with maintaining all IT systems and equipment onboard the vessel, and maintains the hardware, cabling systems, networks, software and addresses other technical issues.
• The Assistant Systems Manager reports to Systems Manager Hotel General Manager and IT Technical Support Department.

What You Will Do On Board

• Provide all departments onboard the vessel with general support for systems and procedural activities and provide user training in order to enhance the ship’s user skills.
• Perform daily operations, as detailed in Run Books and other technical documents provided during training.
• In conjunction with the Systems Manager, support all crew to keep their workstations in working condition, this includes maintaining PCs, point of sale terminals, cabling systems, servers and related hardware.
• Promptly respond to user requests during normal working hours. Extended hours may be required as needed for critical systems support.
• Provide basic user training and support in using common PC software and specialized property management software, as needed.
• Provide support for guest-facing technical equipment, telephones, TVs and Digital Signage. Provide guest support for devices, troubleshooting of WiFi connection & the Viking Voyager App.
• Serve as the IT Guest liaison, in order to make guests feel comfortable with the Viking IT product.
• Keep the Leadership Team informed of any IT issues and policies that may affect shipboard operations in their areas of responsibility.

About You

• A required minimum of 1 years’ experience working with IT systems including hands on experience with assisting end users, operations, and systems administration
• A degree in Computer Science or related and formal training in IT hardware and software is required.
• Fluent in English - must be able to address any kind of information in an adequate manner with excellent oral and written English communication skills, the ability to speak an additional language is an advantage.
• Strong administrative skills are required and experience in MXP is preferred.
• Must be proficient with PC based databases, spread sheets, and word processing systems.
• Demonstrate outstanding flexibility: must be able to work at different times of the day, under pressure and always reflect a positive can-do attitude.
