Job summary

Ascension St. Francis Hospital in Milwaukee, WI is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to provide patient-centered therapy within Behavioral Health. You will implement tailored treatment plans, document patient progress, and collaborate with an Occupational Therapist to adapt goals for optimal recovery.

The role requires BLS within 1 month of hire and Wisconsin COTA credentialing. You will also support discharge planning and coach families, while supervising therapy

• BLS Provider certification within 1 month of hire date or transfer date.

Responsibilities

• Deliver personalized, evidence-based therapy using appropriate modalities.
• Track and communicate patient progress with the Occupational Therapist to revise goals.
• Educate patients and families on managing deficits and promoting safe transition home.
• Coordinate discharge planning and community resources for ongoing success.
• Oversee therapy technicians to maintain safety, workflow, and quality care.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Deliver personalized, evidence-based therapy: Implement tailored treatment plans using appropriate modalities to help patients regain independence and improve their quality of life.
• Track and communicate progress: Document patient journeys and collaborate closely with the Occupational Therapist to revise goals and adapt treatment plans based on real-time responses.
• Empower patients and families: Educate individuals and their caregivers on managing deficits, building confidence for a safer transition home.
• Guide seamless transitions: Coordinate discharge planning, recommending adaptive equipment and community resources to ensure ongoing success beyond clinical care.
• Mentor support staff: Oversee therapy technicians to maintain high safety standards, seamless workflow, and quality care delivery across the team.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credentialed from the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
