Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Coding Specialist to perform thorough medical record review, abstract data, and assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to diagnoses and procedures with accuracy. This ensures timely, compliant coding and helps decrease days in accounts receivable.

You will collaborate with physicians and coding staff, stay current with ICD-10-CM/CPT updates, and contribute to data integrity and hospital reporting while maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications

• High School or GED
• Completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
• 1 year hospital/physician coding experience
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms
• Medical Terminology
• Strong data entry skills
• Understanding of computer applications
• Ability to work with health care team
• RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC, CPC-A certifications

Responsibilities

• Determine ICD-10 CM/CPT codes from medical records (65%).
• Abstract data elements and enter into designated system (15%).
• Support cash flow with unbilled coding reports (10%).
• Keep updated on ICD-10 CM/CPT guidelines and implement updates (5%).
• Perform other duties as assigned (5%).
