Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a skilled medical coder to perform thorough medical record review, apply ICD codes for diagnoses and procedures, and help reduce accounts receivable days. The role requires attention to detail and collaboration with clinicians.

You will abstract data elements for statistical requests, enter coded information into the hospital systems, and stay current with ICD guideline updates through training resources.

Qualifications

• High School / GED
• 1 year in Hospital coding
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) OR Certified In-patient Professional Coder (CIC)
• Familiarity with medical terminology
• Strong data entry skills
• An understanding of computer applications
• Ability to work with members of the health care team

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine ICD codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enters coded information into designated system.
• Ensures efficient management of medical information and cash flow related to unbilled coding reports.
• Keeps informed of changes/updates in ICD guidelines and implements these updates in daily work.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
