Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a Coding Specialist II for a full-time remote role (40 hours/week). The position runs Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and can be performed remotely from the United States.

You will provide training and leadership to Coding Specialist I staff and handle coding and charge-entry duties. You will review EPIC and other system work queues, ensure accurate CPT/HCPCS/ICD coding, and conduct prospective reviews of surgical visits and physician office visits.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Certification: AAPC or AHIMA Coding Certification is required.
• Years of relevant experience: 3 to 5 years is preferred.
• Experience in CPT and ICD coding is preferred.
• Experience in healthcare is preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) is required.

Responsibilities

• Provides training, mentoring, and leadership to Coding Specialist I employees.
• Provides daily reconciliation of all clinical services; assigns CPT, HCPCS and ICD codes prior to charge entry.
• Reviews EPIC charge review queues for coding/billing errors and makes necessary coding changes prior to charge entry.
• Conducts prospective reviews of all surgical or procedural visits for appropriate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD code assignment, prior to charge entry.
• Conducts periodic prospective reviews of 5%-10% physician office visits for proper CPT, HCPCS, and ICD code assignment, prior to charge entry.
• Performs charge entry in EPIC or AS400 or any other hospital billing system for all clinical, coded and billable services.
• Other duties as required.

Responsibilities:

• 1.tProvides training, mentoring, and leadership to Coding Specialist I employees.
• 2.tProvides daily reconciliation of all clinical services provided. Performs coding function through review and analysis of electronic, paper, or hybrid patient medical records and assigns CPT, HCPCS and ICD codes accordingly, prior to charge entry.
• 3.tReviews EPIC charge review work queues daily for coding/billing errors and makes necessary and appropriate coding changes based on medical documentation for both professional and technical charge revenue, prior to charge entry.
• 4.tConducts prospective reviews of all surgical or procedural visits reviewing documentation for appropriate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD code assignment, prior to charge entry.
• 5.tConducts periodic prospective reviews of 5%-10% physician office visits by reviewing medical records for proper CPT, HCPCS, and ICD code assignment, prior to charge entry.
• 6.tPerforms charge entry function as needed into EPIC or AS400 or any other hospital billing system for all clinical, coded and billable services.
• 7.tOther duties as required.
