Job summary

Maternal and Family Health Services in Warminster and Quakertown seeks a full-time Nutritionist to determine WIC eligibility, prescribe the WIC food package, and deliver nutrition education to applicants and participants, following policy.

The role includes documenting education, referrals, and program instructions; verifying identity and residency, income eligibility, and scheduling appointments; and performing hematological and anthropometric assessments as part of ongoing care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or related field with nutrition education credits.
  • 1-3 years’ experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform operations with units involved in measuring and weighing.
  • Deductive reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of customer service and client-centered service delivery.
  • General understanding of medical office processes and social service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Prescribe and tailor standard food packages for participants’ needs.
  • Provide and document referrals and follow-up.
  • Verify participant identification, residency, income eligibility and voter status.

Working to meet the health and nutritional needs of women, children and families with information, education, and quality care, MFHS is currently seeking a full time Nutritionist to work in our Warminster and Quakertown WIC locations.

Job Summary

Responsible for the determination of WIC program eligibility, the prescription of the WIC food package and the delivery and documentation of nutrition education for applicants and participants, according to policy.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Deliver and document nutrition education including providing breastfeeding promotion and support, preparing nutrition care plans, providing and documenting nutrition and breastfeeding contacts for participants, and prescribing and tailoring standard food packages for participant’s medical/nutritional needs and preferences. Ensure all pieces of the nutrition interview are completed.
  • Provide and document appropriate and required referrals to participants including appropriate follow-up referrals.
  • Verify, or confirm verification of, identification and residency of all applicants/participants; verify income eligibility; ask about voter registration status.
  • Conduct and document a thorough participant assessment and document identification of WIC risk code(s).
  • Explain the purpose of the program and provide an overview of what to expect during the appointment ("WIC Rules" and "Participant’s Rights and Responsibilities"); provide food instruments and explain the food list and procedure for use of E-WIC card; and schedule WIC appointments as per guidelines.
  • Perform, record, and assess hematological and anthropometric measurements.
  • Promote and contribute to organizational and programmatic goals of MFHS.
  • Monitor and promote nutrition education, breastfeeding and outreach activities for participants in accordance with the current Nutrition Education, Breastfeeding and Outreach annual plans.
  • Use Text Magic to communicate appointment information with participants.
  • Attend regular training sessions and updates as directed.
  • Perform other duties necessary to support the provision of services.
Qualifications/Requirements/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or related degree with nutrition education credits
  • 1-3 years’ experience preferred
  • Ability to perform operations with units involved in measuring and weighing.
  • Deductive reasoning – ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
  • Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to function independently and as part of a team.

  • General understanding of medical office processes and social service delivery.
