Job summary

MercyOne Central Iowa in Des Moines is seeking a Department Support Assistant to join our team. This part-time role supports the nursing unit with clerical tasks, coordinates communications, and helps maintain patient flow and accuracy of records.

The position requires excellent customer service, strong organizational skills, and the ability to use electronic health records and hospital communication systems. The shift is evenings, with routine hours and holiday rotation.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Performs clerical duties for the nursing unit, maintains charts, and sorts mail.
• Answers multi-line phones and greets customers.
• Coordinates communication between the nursing unit and other hospital departments.
• Operates electronic health records and other communication technologies.
• Maintains a safe, neat work environment and stocks supplies as needed.
• Prepares documents and records in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Conducts unit audits of records and transactions.
• Maintains meeting room schedules.
