Job summary

New Mexico Junior College is seeking a Part-time Nursing Success Coach to provide supplemental learning and mentorship to nursing students, promoting retention and academic success. You will work with the Recruitment Specialists and coordinators to tailor support for a diverse learner population and help students reach their nursing goals.

You will tutor after hours, meet students in small groups, reinforce nursing concepts, and adapt materials to student needs while maintaining confidentiality

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience.
  • Active NM Registered Nursing license or Multi-state license.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA policies.
  • Ability to demonstrate a respectful, supportive, and non-discriminatory attitude towards nursing students and faculty.
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere and collaborate with nursing faculty regarding student needs and strategies for retention.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Availability to tutor after normal classroom hours (late afternoons, evenings, weekends).
  • Meet with students individually and in small groups to reinforce and support their understanding of nursing content.
  • Assist students in applying nursing concepts and critically thinking about course content and how it applies on exams, in lab/simulation, and clinical.
  • Use assessments and information from faculty/Retention Specialist and student input to target areas of student need. Adapt tutoring methods and instructional materials to meet varying needs.
  • Motivate, support, and empower students to expand subject area confidence and monitor progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and participation. Develop content-related tutoring materials with faculty.
  • Develop rapport and maintain contact with students, faculty, advisors, and campus services.
  • Encourage thoughtful, self-reflective assessment.
  • Promote cooperation and mutual respect among students.
  • Maintain student confidentiality at all times.
  • Refer students to other NMJC support services as needed.
  • Support the stated mission, policies, and procedures of New Mexico Junior College.
  • May serve on various campus committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job description

TITLE: Part-time Nursing Success Coach
REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing
SUMMARY
  • Under direct supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Nursing Success Coach is responsible for providing supplemental learning in order to promote the retention of nursing students. The Nursing Success Coach will coach and mentor students with the aim of facilitating their success in reaching their goal of becoming a nurse. This position will work closely with the Retention Specialist, Year One Coordinator and Year Two Coordinator to ensure that learning needs are met for a diverse population of learners. The Nursing Success Coach should be dedicated to conducting activities in a manner that promotes student success and lifelong learning.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meet with students individually and in small groups to reinforce and support their understanding of content taught in nursing courses.

  • Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience
  • Active New Mexico Registered Nursing licenseor Multi-state license
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA policies in accordance with New Mexico Junior College’s policies and procedures
  • Ability to demonstrate a respectful, supportive, and non-discriminatory attitude towards nursing students and faculty
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere and collaborate with nursing faculty regarding student needs and strategies for retention
  • Excellent communication skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of College and department policies and procedures.
