Job summary

Montgomery College, Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, is seeking a Nursing Simulation Coordinator in the Nursing Department for a full-time role. The position follows a Monday–Friday schedule, 8:00 am–4:30 pm, with occasional evenings and weekends.

Telework up to one day per week is eligible; residency in MD, DC, VA, WV, DE, or PA is required for approved telework. The incumbent will coordinate all simulation activities, develop standards, manage a simulation budget, and collaborate with faculty

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Nursing.
• Five years of acute care medical-surgical nursing experience.
• Three years of teaching experience in nursing theory, clinical, or campus lab settings.
• Three years of experience in instructional design.
• Experience in simulation pedagogy.
• Eligible applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff, assign workloads, conduct evaluations, and coordinate hiring/training actions.
• Track supplies, student participation, and simulation data/report outcomes.
• Orient new nursing and health science faculty and staff to simulation.

Job description

Montgomery College, Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, seeks candidates for a Full-time, Nursing Simulation Coordinator in the Nursing Department. The work schedule is Monday-Friday; 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (with occasional evenings and weekends). This is a Non-Bargaining, Exempt Grade 31 position. This position is eligible for telework 1 day(s) a week. Telework eligibility and total days per week are subject to change based on the operational needs of the applicable unit/area.

Montgomery College does not currently offer voluntary remote work, or withhold payroll taxes for states outside of its tax reciprocity agreements. As a result, employees must reside in, and perform any approved telework from Maryland, Washington, DC, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, or Pennsylvania. Employees residing in other states at the time of hire are not eligible for telework until they have secured a permanent residence in one of the states listed above.

Under supervision and/or direction, the incumbent will coordinate all simulation activities to develop and implement standards across the nursing curriculum, promote successful teaching strategies using simulations, provide faculty development in the use of simulations, and provide assistance running simulations. The simulation coordinator will promote excellence in clinical education through the use of quality simulations. Additionally, the incumbent will collaborate with faculty to establish standards for simulation used in the nursing program; develop simulation scenarios and written scripts as a supplement the nursing clinical experiences; manage the budget for simulation suite expenses and provide monthly tracking updates; and research major trends and innovations in clinical practice as it relates to topics taught in simulated clinical laboratory. Additionally, Montgomery College is the host school for the Maryland Clinical Simulation Resource Consortium (MCSRC).

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Oversee the simulation suite, which provides a safe environment for students to mimic activities that happens in an actual clinical environment. The simulation suite serves as a resource for students and faculty to practice peer-reviewed scenarios to enrich the students while they practice how to professionally care for patients, prioritizing patient care, learn to delegate, communicate and team work.
• Develop, collaborate and implement the simulation component of the nursing program. Interface with faculty, staff and students in coordinating the development of scenarios, as well as policies, procedures and practices to be used in simulations.
• Promote and coordinate the teaching, learning, and evaluation activities conducted by faculty, students and members of the community in the use of simulations and improve educational practices within the simulation program.
• Conduct analyses of occupational and academic areas to determine the requirements for revision of existing and new instructional systems including training programs.
• Supervise staff to include: prioritizing, and assigning work, setting schedules, conducting performance evaluations, coaching, developing, and training staff, hiring, and recommending disciplinary actions.
• Identify, track and monitor supplies required for simulation.
• Track numbers of students participating in simulations and hours of participation, evaluate simulation effectiveness, and collect and report data relevant to student outcomes.
• Assist with skills evaluations in the context of simulation.
• Orient new nursing and other health science faculty, staff, students to simulation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Nursing.
• Five years of acute care medical-surgical nursing experience.
• Three years of teaching experience in nursing theory, clinical, or campus lab settings.
• Three years of experience in instructional design.
• Experience in simulation pedagogy.
• The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
• Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship .

Certifications/Licenses:

• Unencumbered Maryland and District of Columbia RN license, or eligibility for licensure.
• Current CPR-BLS certification and Certified Healthcare Simulation Education (CHSE).

Hiring Range:

Hiring Range: $81,740 - $106,250 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $130,760 annually.
