Job summary

The Alden Network in Naperville, IL is seeking an experienced Nursing Department Leader to plan, coordinate, and direct all aspects of nursing care. You will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards and facility policies while maintaining the highest level of quality care for residents.

Responsibilities include supervising nursing staff, auditing charts and EHRs, developing care plans, and participating in multi-disciplinary meetings to optimize resident outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Illinois and/or Wisconsin.
  • Minimum of one year nursing service administration experience.
  • Must possess CPR certificate or become certified within two weeks of employment.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures.
  • Must read, write and speak English clearly.
  • Must be able to make independent decisions when warranted.
  • Must be able to interact tactfully with customers, families, visitors, personnel, and agencies.
  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and work harmoniously with personnel.
  • Must be personable, enthusiastic, and resourceful.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Nursing Department.
  • Assure all nursing procedures and protocols are followed per policies.
  • Directly supervise and instruct the Alden staff to promote job knowledge.
  • Identify problems and develop solutions with Administration.
  • Develop a nursing philosophy that promotes quality care for residents.
  • Ensure adequate staff on all shifts.
  • Audit charts and EHR to ensure daily documentation.
  • Audit lab and x-ray reports and file results.
  • Audit transfers/discharges for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in developing plans of care for each resident and participate in care conferences.
  • Attend Customer/Family Council meetings and report concerns to the Administrator.
  • Recruit, interview, and select Alden staff with Administrator approval.
  • Schedule department work hours and assignments to meet resident needs.
  • Counsel and discipline as needed; complete evaluations timely.
  • Perform daily rounds to ensure duties are performed and procedures followed.
  • Submit Workmen’s Comp forms to Business Office Manager within 24 hours.
  • Plan, conduct, and participate in In-service Education Programs.
  • Assist in orientation for new Alden staff.
  • Attend continuing education programs.
  • Place orders for equipment and supplies within budget.
  • Maintain budgetary controls for POs.
  • Maintain nursing reference materials to support daily needs.
  • Participate in admissions planning and room assignments.
  • Review nurses’ notes to ensure descriptive clinical documentation.
  • Monitor medication passes and treatments as ordered.
  • Ensure licenses are valid and current for nursing staff.
  • Report changes in customer condition to family and physicians.
  • Attend Department Head and Infection Control meetings as directed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
