Job summary

Yale New Haven Health is seeking a Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPDS) to advance nursing education and professional growth across the organization. This role supports professional development from novice to expert, aligning with ANA standards of practice and interprofessional learning activities.

The NPDS will lead competency-based orientation and ongoing education, champion quality improvement initiatives, and collaborate with nursing education teams to build leadership skills

Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher; one degree must be in nursing (BS or MS in nursing).
• Candidates must be enrolled in Master's program and degree completed by 6/1/2027.
• 3-5 years of active nursing experience; one year of teaching experience preferred.

The Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPDS)

The Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPDS) at Yale New Haven Health System is built upon the Nursing professional development, Scope and Standards of practice framework. The NPDS is a specialized nursing professional that facilitates the professional role development and growth of nurses and other healthcare personnel along the continuum from novice to expert.

Responsibilities

• Education
  • Assesses the learning needs based on regulatory requirements, evidence-based practice, and staff-identified needs.

  • Supports the development of nursing leadership skills in self and clinical nursing staff according to ANA Standards of Practice, to promote professional nursing practice and quality patient care.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Master's degree or higher required, one degree must be in nursing (Either BS or MS in nursing). Candidates must be enrolled in Master's program and the degree must be completed by 6/1/2027

Experience

3-5 Years of active Nursing experience , one year of relevant teaching experience preferred , nursing staff development and/or specialty area preferred

LICENSURE

Licensure as a RN in the state of CT/ RI & Nursing Board Certification within 2 years of hire

Demonstrates ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programs.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

The NPDS would support their assigned area, and others as requested, throughout the health system. Travel to YNHHS entities as needed to facilitate professional development activities of nurses within YNHHS.
