Job summary

Yale New Haven Health is seeking a Nursing Professional Development Specialist to advance nursing education and professional development across the system. The NPDS will drive education, leadership development, and interprofessional learning to promote high-quality patient care.

Key responsibilities include assessing learning needs, developing competency-based orientation, leading quality-improvement initiatives, and collaborating with nursing education teams.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in nursing is required; one degree must be in nursing (BSN/MSN).
  • Candidates must be enrolled in a Master's program and complete the degree by 6/1/2027.

The Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPDS) at Yale New Haven Health System is built upon the Nursing professional development, Scope and Standards of practice framework. The NPDS is a specialized nursing professional that facilitates the professional role development and growth of nurses and other healthcare personnel along the continuum from novice to expert.

Responsibilities
  • Education
    • Assesses the learning needs based on regulatory requirements, evidence-based practice, and staff-identified needs.
  • Role Development
    • Supports the development of nursing leadership skills in self and clinical nursing staff according to ANA Standards of Practice, to promote professional nursing practice and quality patient care.
  • Collaborative Partnerships
    • Represents nursing in the development of interprofessional learning activities.
  • Champion of Scientific Inquiry
    • Develops, educates, and implements quality improvement initiatives and outcomes across the organization.
  • Orientation
    • Develops, implements, evaluates competency-based orientation.
  • Competency Management and Ongoing Education
    • Develops initial and ongoing competencies in collaboration with nursing education teams.
Qualifications

Master's degree or higher required, one degree must be in nursing (Either BS or MS in nursing). Candidates must be enrolled in a Master's program and the degree must be completed by 6/1/2027.

Experience

3-5 Years of active Nursing experience, one year of relevant teaching experience preferred, nursing staff development and/or specialty area preferred.

Licensure

Licensure as an RN in the state of CT/RI & Nursing Board Certification within 2 years of hire.

Special Skills

Demonstrates ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programs.

Physical Demand

The NPDS would support their assigned area, and others as requested, throughout the health system. Travel to YNHHS entities as needed to facilitate professional development activities of nurses within YNHHS.

Additional Information

This position will be primarily located at YNHH but will cover IR and Cath Lab at both YNHH (YSC and SRC) and BH. Requires experience in this critical specialty.
