Job summary

Lamar Institute of Technology is seeking an Instructor for Nursing to deliver and coordinate the professional nursing education program on campus in Beaumont, TX. You will plan and evaluate courses, participate in curriculum development, and support the nursing education program across multiple delivery modes (including hybrid/online).

The role requires a Master’s degree and Texas RN license, with at least three years of nursing experience, and a commitment to recruitment and retention aligned

Qualifications

Job Summary

The Instructor for Nursing’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing instruction of students enrolled in the courses related to the professional nursing education program, participation in all phases of planning, implementation and evaluation of the professional nursing education program, policy development, and promulgate changes approved through the Nursing Program Association. This individual is also responsible for maintaining office hours, and teaching extended day classes, labs, and hybrid/online courses, as required, both on campus and at alternate locations. This individual helps coordinate and attend advisory committee meetings; attends workshops, seminars, and conferences to upgrade teaching skills; assists in the development of curriculum, as needed; and maintain program computer labs. All LIT faculty are responsible for recruitment and retention as a part of achieving the Institute’s Shared Vision of Growth and Excellence.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Actively engage students in the learning process
  • Maintain ethical and professional behavior
  • Maintain knowledge of the policies and procedures contained in the TSUS and LIT Policies and Procedures Manual
  • Participate in college service, which may include, committee work and advising and/or tutoring students
  • Teach classes during the fall, spring, and summer semesters as required by the department including Early College High School/dual credit courses in classroom, laboratory, office and clinical settings; including online courses
  • Travel to clinical agency sites and essential meetings locally and out of town may be required
  • Schedule may include day, evening, night and/or weekend shifts, since clinical experiences are scheduled to coincide with the usual work environment of nurses.
  • Provide mentorship to dual credit partners/mentees
  • Attend Teaching and Learning Center sessions to enhance teaching skills
  • Stay abreast of national matters and trends in education
  • Assist in the development of curriculum as needed
  • Verify student’s completion of course requirements
  • Maintain knowledge of the nurse educator and nursing student roles according to the Texas Board of Nursing
  • Follow specific guidelines for supervising students and preceptors in the clinical area as appropriate
  • Counsel and advise students as needed and in accordance with LIT, Department of Allied Health & Sciences, and Nursing Program policy
  • Adhere to policies of LIT, Department of Allied Health & Sciences, and the Nursing Program
  • Perform other related duties, as required
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in any subject along with a bachelor’s in nursing from an approved or accredited baccalaureate program with at least six (6) graduate semester hours in nursing appropriate to assigned teaching duties
  • Current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas
  • Three (3) years’ experience in nursing
  • Knowledge of teaching methodologies/pedagogical strategies
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Knowledge of Texas Board of Nursing rules for nursing practice and nursing programs.
  • Knowledge of best practices for teaching and learning in nursing, including simulation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in nursing
  • Three (3) years’ experience in nursing education
  • Certified Nurse Educator
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator
Supplemental Information

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to: remain sitting and standing for extended periods of time, occasionally move about inside a classroom or office to access documents, equipment etc., constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, the ability to move patients and effectively manipulate required equipment.
