Job Summary

The Instructor for Biology is responsible for providing instruction for students enrolled in Biology courses (along with related courses and topics) in the Allied Health Department. Responsibilities include maintaining office hours, teaching extended day classes, labs, and hybrid/online courses as required on campus and at alternate locations. The instructor coordinates and attends advisory committee meetings, attends workshops, seminars, and conferences to upgrade teaching skills, assists in curriculum development as needed, and maintains program computer labs. All LIT faculty are also responsible for recruitment and retention.

Responsibilities
  • Actively engage students in the learning process
  • Maintain ethical and professional behavior
  • Maintain knowledge of and adherence to the policies and procedures contained in the TSUS and LIT Policies and Procedures Manual
  • Participate in college service, including committee work, advising, tutoring, and recruiting
  • Teach classes during the fall and spring semesters as required by the department (may include day, evening, weekend, and Early College High School/dual credit); including online courses
  • Provide mentorship to dual credit partners/mentees
  • Attend Teaching and Learning Center sessions to enhance teaching skills
  • Stay abreast of national matters and trends in education
  • Participate in assessment activities for the LIT Core Curriculum
  • Assist in the development of curriculum as needed
  • Perform other related duties, as required
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Biology or Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in Biology
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of teaching methodologies/pedagogical strategies
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Possess good time management skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching in higher education
  • Doctorate degree in subject area
  • Related field and/or industry certifications
Supplemental Information

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for most of the time, occasionally move about inside an office to access documents and office equipment, and constantly operate a computer or other office equipment such as a printer or copy machine.
