Job summary

Lexington Regional Health Center invites nursing students to join a Nursing Externship program. You will participate in general patient care, assist with ADLs and vital signs, and learn under the supervision of the Director of Nursing in the Nursing Department.

Qualifications

• Reads, writes and uses basic computer and office equipment to perform duties.
• Maintains professional communication with patients and staff.
• Protects patient confidentiality and handles sensitive information.
• Enrollment in an accredited RN program with anticipated graduation next year; preferred RN program.
• BLS certification required; CNA license required.

Responsibilities

• Assists with activities of daily living and vital sign monitoring as directed.
• Communicates patient needs to nursing staff and completes assigned duties.
• Maintains accurate and timely medical record documentation.
• Ensures patient areas are stocked with supplies.
• Adheres to patient safety practices and infection control guidelines.
• Delivers bedside shift reports to oncoming staff for continuity of care.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary team for patient-centered care.
• Handles exposure to bloodborne pathogens and proper disposal of biohazardous waste.
• Collects, stores, and labels biological specimens properly.
• Ensures environment meets applicable standards; supports housekeeping as needed.
• Attends work location as scheduled; performs additional duties as assigned.
