Winston-Salem State University seeks an Assistant Professor (Non-Tenure)/Academic Success Coach to lead the Nursing Student Tutorial Program and provide targeted academic support for undergraduates in the School of Health Sciences.

In collaboration with Nursing faculty, Undergraduate Nursing Program Chair, and SOHS leadership, you will design tutoring, exam readiness strategies, remediation plans, and holistic student success initiatives to improve retention, progression, and licensure readiness.

Qualifications

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree required.
• Current, unrestricted RN license in North Carolina or eligible for licensure.
• More than three (3) years of experience serving as nursing faculty in an accredited program.
• Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate nursing students.
• Experience providing academic remediation, tutoring, or coaching.
• Strong communication, organizational, instructional, and interpersonal skills.
• Certification as a nurse educator (CNE) preferred.
• Experience with student success data analysis and program evaluation.

Responsabilités

• Design, launch, and oversee a structured nursing student tutoring program.
• Develop tutoring schedules aligned with high-risk nursing courses and exams.
• Establish peer tutoring model with faculty oversight.
• Train tutors and establish criteria for tutor selection and evaluation.
• Collaborate with nursing faculty to identify tutoring priorities and high-risk content areas.
• Coordinate individual tutoring, small-group sessions, and skill-building workshops.
• Establish procedures for referrals, appointments, attendance tracking, and follow-up.
• Develop tutoring resources, study guides, review tools, practice questions, and clinical reasoning exercises.
• Evaluate tutoring participation, student satisfaction, academic performance, and program effectiveness.
• Identify at-risk students using exam performance and progression data.
• Develop individualized academic success plans with goals and follow-ups.
• Maintain confidential coaching records and provide semester reports to leadership.
• Lead RN exam preparation strategy integrated across the curriculum.
• Provide remediation for students with exam or clinical judgment gaps.
• Support implementation of licensure readiness resources and coaching.
• Provide tutoring and coaching in foundational and advanced nursing content; teach study strategies and test-taking.
• Support progression to upper-division courses and assess tutoring impact via performance data.
• Provide holistic student wellness coaching and professional development support.
• Connect students to campus resources and coordinate with SOHS Student Success Team.
• Maintain professional boundaries and refer to specialized services when needed.
