Job summary

Altoona Health & Rehab is seeking a Director of Nursing (DON) to lead the nursing department in a long-term care and rehabilitation setting. The DON will oversee RNs, LPNs, and CNAs, develop nursing policies, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient care outcomes.

The role requires an active RN license, proven leadership in nursing, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in good standing.
• Proven experience in nursing leadership, preferably in long-term care or rehabilitation.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and clinical best practices.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a passion for mentoring and team development.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and direction to nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs.
• Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and enhance patient safety.
• Oversee the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
• Monitor patient outcomes and quality indicators, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing best practices.
• Mentor, guide, and support nursing staff to foster professional growth and development.
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and social workers to coordinate patient care and optimize health outcomes.
• Ensure adequate staffing levels and manage nursing schedules to meet patient care needs.
• Participate in performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and staff training initiatives.
• Serve as a liaison between staff, residents, and families to facilitate communication and resolve concerns effectively.
