Job summary

North Houston Transitional Care is seeking a Director of Nursing (DON) to oversee the care of all residents and provide direct patient care as needed. The DON will supervise the entire nursing department, ensure staffing, safety, and compliance with regulations.

The ideal candidate has a BSN (preferred) and seven years of nurse-management experience. The role includes policy development, staff education, budgeting, and coordination with physicians, families, and other departments to maintain

Qualifications

• Graduation from an Accredited School of Nursing with a BSN preferred.
• Must be in good standing with the State Board of Nursing and maintain continuing education/licensing requirements.
• Minimum of 7 years nurse management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the nursing department and staffing levels.
• Develop and implement nursing policies and procedures and ensure compliance.
• Ensure resident safety and that residents are treated with respect.
• Develop and conduct in-services for clinical staff.
• Recruit, hire and train nursing staff.
• Coordinate pharmacy services and disposal of expired meds.
• Liaison between facility, physicians and family members.
• Act as witness at trials when required.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure high-quality resident care.
• Manage department budgeting and reporting.
• Keep current on regulatory changes and disseminate information.
• Participate in QA, Utilization Review and Patient Care conferences.
• Assist with state surveys and follow-up activity.
• Coordinate MDS and care planning.
• Conduct employee appraisals and handle disciplinary actions.
