Job summary

MercyOne Elkader Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Manager to lead the nursing department, uphold clinical practice standards, and drive quality improvements in a 25-bed critical access hospital. You will supervise staff, manage budgets, and coordinate with other departments to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care.

The role requires a BSN or near completion, 5+ years of nursing experience with leadership, and Iowa RN licensure.

Qualifications

• BSN or actively completing BSN degree within 3 years of offer acceptance.
• Minimum 5 years nursing experience; 3 years in nursing leadership.
• Current Iowa RN license; Active IL RN license if working in IL.
• BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Mandatory Reporter and strong analytical/decision-making abilities.
• Proficiency with computers and ability to work with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Clinical leadership within the department, ensuring safe, effective delivery of care.
• Rounding, physician and staff interaction; problem solving and staff support.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives; address patient and family feedback within 24–48 hours.
• Communicate mission and policies; promote compliance and ethical practice.
• Develop staff through competency assessments and performance feedback.
• Oversee budgeting and resource utilization to meet operational goals.
• Support safety, infection control and safety policies; ensure emergency preparedness.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable laws, standards, and organizational policies.
