Job summary

The Veterans Health Administration's Bonham Community Living Center is seeking a Nursing Assistant to join the patient-care team supporting veterans across preventative, acute, subacute, and long-term care settings. You will assist licensed staff, perform basic nursing procedures under supervision, and help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.

The role includes glucose monitoring, charting, and contributing to care plans.

Qualifications

• Transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
• Education or degrees recognized by the U.S. Department of Education from accredited institutions may be used to qualify for Federal employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed nursing staff in the care of patients/residents receiving preventative, acute, subacute, chronic, maintenance, and hospice care.
• Learn to use glucose monitoring equipment to collect and document readings for veterans.
• Maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients and families, observe and report changes in condition, and participate in care planning.
• Perform nursing procedures within scope of practice and policy, including basic care tasks and equipment checks.
• Participate in patient care conferences and shift reports; support infection control and safety practices.
• Work 12-hour day or night shifts with weekends and holidays; may work other shifts as needed.
