UNC Health Care’s Johnston Health Smithfield on 3rd Floor Medical/Surgical is hiring a Full-Time Nursing Assistant I. The unit handles a mix of medical patients with occasional pediatric cases; shifts are 12 hours (0645–1915 or 1845–0715) with every other weekend and rotating holidays.

Responsibilities include assisting physicians and staff, monitoring vital signs, performing basic care and ADLs, documenting changes, safeguarding patient comfort, and supporting families.

Qualifications

• Fluent in verbal and written English language.
• Basic computer skills required.

Responsabilités

• Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies during emergency situations.
• Aid patients in reality orientation, participate in behavior modification plans/therapy, provide supportive therapy to patients and families, de-escalate potentially aggressive patients, assist with care.
• Observe, collect, and document patient information and report significant changes to a registered nurse or physician.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide care/treatments outlined in plan of care including vital signs, wound care, catheter care, glucose checks, ROM, and postural drainage.
• Provide direct personal care for activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding and ambulation assistance.
• Perform indirect care including cleaning, stocking, sterilizing instruments, transporting patients, and orienting new staff.
• Reinforce patient education and distribute educational materials.
