Corewell Health's 5 North unit in Farmington Hills seeks a dedicated observer nurse to join the Med Surg Care Unit. You will provide patient care under RN direction, handle safe patient transport, and document in the EMR, while supporting families and ensuring safe observation for acuity. This full-time role follows a day shift with 36 hours per week.

The position emphasizes teamwork, safety, and compassionate care in a Magnet-recognized hospital environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
• Basic Life Support certification required.
• Current CNA certification preferred.
• Effective communication and documentation skills essential.
• Ability to move or lift patients and equipment; basic medical terminology helpful.
• Experience in hospital or nursing home setting preferred.

Responsabilités

• Provide care to patients according to the plan of care and unit policy under RN supervision.
• Safely transport patients via wheelchair or stretcher and document services.
• Serve as an Observer for patients requiring constant observation, in person or via remote monitoring.
• Perform receptionist and clerical duties to support unit operations and EMR documentation.

About This Unit

5 North is a 38-bed unit caring for a wide variety of medical, surgical, and chronically ill patients. The unit specializes in the care of diabetes (insulin drips) and renal failure (Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis). The unit can accommodate patients who need telemetry (monitored remotely) and oximetry. The patient/nurse ratio is adjusted based on acuity. Our nurse’s partner with universities to help student nurses succeed through precepting, support, and role modeling. Our goal is to provide all patients the highest quality health care services that are delivered efficiently, effectively, and compassionately while welcoming their families.

Scope of work

Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services. Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation, either in person or via remote video monitoring, to maximize his/her safety. Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit. Documentation of care provided in the electronic medical record.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Previous hospital or nursing home experience preferred
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support required
• Current CNA certification preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.
• Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
• Basic computer knowledge is preferred.
• Ability to move or lift patients and equipment.
• Ability to demonstrate Corewell customer service standards and behaviors in all aspects of job performance
