Job summary

Hillview Health Care Center within La Crosse County seeks a compassionate Nurse Technician to support the long-term care team. You will provide direct resident care under the supervision of an RN, administer medications, and help implement individualized plans of care while continuing your nursing education.

Ideal candidates are nursing students enrolled in an RN or LPN program, with CNA credentials and a clean background check.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in an RN or LPN program or have attempted licensure.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant listed on Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry.
  • Passing grades in nursing courses and background check completed.
  • Must work under direct supervision of an on-site RN.

Responsibilities

Hillview Health Care Center is seeking a compassionate, dedicated Nurse Technician to join our long‑term care team. This role is perfect for nursing students enrolled in an RN or LPN program who want meaningful hands‑on experience while working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Position Details
  • PM Shift: 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM
  • Every other weekend and holiday rotation
  • Irregular part-time (less than 40 hours per pay period)
  • Opportunity to pick up additional shifts
  • Pay: $22.20 per hour, plus shift and weekend differentials and annual step progression
About the Role

As a Nurse Technician, you will help support the nursing care team by providing direct resident care in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. Under RN supervision, you will administer medications and treatments, communicate resident needs to supervising staff, carry out physician orders as directed, and assist with implementing individualized plans of care. This position offers valuable experience in long-term care while you continue your nursing education.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide direct nursing care, including medication and treatment administration under RN supervision
  • Support resident safety, wellbeing, and comfort
  • Communicate resident information to the RN and serve as a liaison
  • Carry out assigned duties promptly, safely, and accurately
  • Follow safety practices and facility standards
  • Uphold resident rights, dignity, and confidentiality
  • Work collaboratively and respectfully with staff, residents, families, and the public
  • Seek assistance when faced with clinical questions or concerns
  • Attend required in-service education
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, and hands‑on care throughout the shift
  • Bending, squatting, pushing/pulling wheelchairs or carts
  • Occasional lifting up to 60 pounds
  • Use of nursing equipment such as lifts, scales, BP devices, thermometers
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled and actively taking courses in an RN or LPN program (no break > 1 year), and have completed a pharmacology/medication administration course
  • OR previously attempted licensure exam and awaiting retake
  • Certified Nursing Assistant listed on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry
  • Passing grades maintained in all nursing courses
  • Successful completion of caregiver background check
  • Must work under direct supervision of an on‑site RN per Wisconsin Administrative Code
