The Neuro Critical Care Unit is an Intensive care unit within the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth hospital. The Neuro ICU is part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at the Medical Center, and it is West Michigan’s largest stroke center.
We specialize in the care of patients with stroke or other neurological conditions, including Hemorrhagic stroke, Ischemic stroke, seizures, and Hydrocephalus with critical care needs. Our nurses are part of a collaborative team and work alongside nurse techs, intensivists, APPs, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, chaplains, and secretaries to provide specialized care. The team promotes collaboration, kindness, teamwork, and learning.
Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization, and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that required documentation is performed accurately and timely.
Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care within our clinics alongside RN’s/Providers. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider.
Orientation for this role requires being available for 3 daytime training shifts per week (between Monday‑Thursday, along with rotating weekends) for 8 weeks. After this, the regular night shift will begin.
