The Emergency Department at Hartford Hospital, a tertiary care teaching hospital, is recognized as being one of the busiest EDs in the region. HHED is also an accredited Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Cardiac Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and accredited Geriatric ED. Additionally, HHED is a proud recipient of the Emergency Nurses Association’s 2024 Lantern Award for demonstrating excellence in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research performance. The Lantern Award is a visible symbol of an emergency department’s commitment to quality, safety, a healthy work environment and innovation in nursing practice and emergency care. Comprised of 108 beds, with the addition of a new 19 bed ED Observation Unit, HHED treats an average of 110,000 patients annually.
Functioning within the framework for professional nursing practice, the Nurse Manager oversees daily operations of the Emergency Department. The Nurse Manager supervises and effectively communicates with all direct report staff, managing staff hiring, accountability and development, and contributing to both staff and department performance improvement initiatives to meet the hospital’s strategic goals. The Nurse Manager has 24-hour accountability for managing resources (human, material and financial), to ensure quality, cost-effective delivery of patient services for specific patient populations, in a defined area across the continuum. This is accomplished by direct action, delegation, coaching and support of unit-based shared governance councils. Role reports to Emergency Services Senior Clinical Operations Manager.
