Job summary

The State of Maryland's Department of Health Healthcare System seeks a Nurse Informaticist to serve as an expert in nursing informatics, clinical information systems, and EHRs.

You will assess workflows, optimize CDS, guide regulatory compliance, and lead education across facilities, with a focus on data analytics, dashboards, and quality improvement to support safe, evidence-based care statewide.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.
• Five years of experience as a Registered Nurse including two years in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity.
• Substitution options: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or health-related field plus two years RN in admin/supervisory/consultative/teaching role; Doctorate in Nursing for two years; or U.S. Armed Forces RN service as a commissioned officer in Nursing for year-for-year credit.

Responsibilities

• Assess, configure, and evaluate EHR systems and CDS tools, acting as bridge between clinical operations and IT teams.
• Advise nursing leadership on operations, workflow redesign, and workforce utilization across facilities.
• Collect, validate, and analyze clinical data to build dashboards and drive quality improvement and patient safety.
• Ensure documentation and systems comply with COMAR, CMS, Joint Commission, HIPAA; develop policies and SOPs.
• Develop EHR training initiatives and clinical competencies; guide staff on regulatory changes.
• Participate in governance, vendor management, and interagency health initiatives.
