Job summary

Atrium Health Navicent in Macon, GA is seeking a Nurse Extern under RN supervision to support patient care and unit workflow. This position is benefits eligible and part of the nursing education pipeline.

You will perform delegated tasks within your education and validated competencies, assist with ADLs, transport patients, document vital signs, and support discharge and admission activities as directed by the RN.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Actively enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
• Maintain GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
• Completion of foundational nursing coursework prior to onboarding.
• Satisfactory references.

Responsibilities

• Supports patients with ADLs—bathing, grooming, toileting, dressing, maintaining dignity and safety.
• Assists with mobility and transfers under RN direction.
• Records vital signs and basic measurements; reports abnormalities.
• Supports nutrition and feeding; monitors diet tolerance per orders.
• Maintains a clean, safe patient environment with infection control standards.
• Observes changes in patient condition and reports to the RN promptly.
• Reinforces patient education and preparation for tests or procedures.
• Performs clerical tasks and basic EMR data entry.
• Manages supplies and equipment; stocks inventory and keeps area clean.
• Performs competency-validated skills under RN supervision (e.g., venipuncture, EKG).
