Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Nurse Extern who will support Registered Nurses in delivering safe, high-quality patient care. Under RN supervision, you will perform delegated tasks aligned with your education and validated competencies, including assisting with ADLs, vital signs, and specimen collection.

You will help with admissions, discharges, and other unit workflow while maintaining infection prevention standards and patient safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; actively enrolled in an accredited nursing program with good academic standing (minimum 2.5 GPA).
• Must have completed foundational nursing coursework (e.g., fundamentals, assessment, pathology/pharmacology).
• Documentation of coursework verification may include transcripts, letters from School of Nursing, or competency summaries.
• Equivalent grading systems accepted if they meet the standard before and during employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist RN with activities of daily living to support patient comfort, safety and dignity.
• Assist with mobility, transfers, and use of assistive devices under RN direction.
• Record routine clinical measurements and report abnormalities to the RN.
• Support nutrition/hydration and assist with meals per diet orders and RN guidance.
• Maintain clean, infection-free patient environment and equipment.
• Observe patient condition changes and report timely to the RN.
