Job summary

UVA Community Health is offering an 8-week nurse extern program for final-year nursing students. The role supports patient care under an RN in inpatient/outpatient settings, with 36-40 hours across three 12-hour shifts, beginning June 14th, 2027.

Compensation starts at $17.28 per hour, with orientation and safety requirements, as part of UVA Health’s community care model. Eligible students graduate December 2027 through May 2028 (BSN 3rd year or ASN 1st year).

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled student nurses who graduate December 2027–May 2028.
• BSN students who have completed their 3rd year; ASN students who have completed their 1st year.

Performs a variety of patient care and administrative support functions under the supervision of a UVA Community Health Registered Nurse (RN) in an inpatient or outpatient setting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sedentary to Light Physical Demand: The job requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, and bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive body movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 20 lbs. occasionally. The base compensation for this role is $17.28 hourly.
