Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Detroit is seeking a Nurse Extern to support patient care under RN supervision in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. This role offers hands-on experience in an acute care setting while you advance your nursing education.

You will assist with patient care duties, participate in ongoing education, and maintain active enrollment in your nursing program, reporting progress to the Nurse Manager.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or enrollment in Henry Ford Health Early College Program with two clinical rotations.
• Enrolled in accredited nursing program with completion of two clinical rotations, one in Med/Surg.
• Current Health Care Provider Certification.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Unit Overview

Cardiovascular Intensive Care – P5 CVICU

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is a 28-bed unit specializing in structural heart disease, interventional cardiology, cardiac and vascular surgery, advanced heart failure and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Part of The Edith and Benson Ford Heart and Vascular Institute, one of the nation’s largest and most successful heart failure and transplant programs, the unit provides complex care to high acuity patients from across the country.

This fast-paced CVICU provides numerous opportunities for growth, including training to care for patients who have had heart or lung transplants, total artificial heart implants, LVAD insertion, direct post-op CABG, AMI, cardiogenic shock, TAVR, ECMO, Impella implant and Tandem Heart. Our physicians have developed and successfully completed a number of first-in-man procedures performed with the most advanced technologies available.

Your contributions will directly impact patient safety, comfort, and overall care experience.
