Job summary

UT Health East Texas is seeking a variable shift, PRN Nurse Extern to support patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will perform basic nursing tasks, report patient conditions, and help maintain unit readiness in a fast-paced environment.

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program and in good academic standing, with high school diploma or GED. BLS certification is required within 14 days of hire.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be enrolled in an Accredited Nursing Program with anticipated completion within 24 months from date of hire.
• Must be currently enrolled and in good academic standing in a professional nursing program.

Responsibilities

• Perform functions under direct supervision of a registered nurse.
• Carry out basic nursing tasks including patient care, reporting conditions, and maintaining equipment and unit cleanliness.
• Demonstrate knowledge to provide care appropriate to the age of patients on the assigned unit.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for performing functions as authorized under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.
• In addition, performs basic nursing tasks to include patient care, reporting patient conditions, circumstances, and maintaining equipment and unit cleanliness.
• The nurse extern must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.

Conditions: May be required to work irregular schedules. Potential exposure to hazard materials/situations to include but not limited to, blood-borne pathogens, ionizing radiation, and communicable diseases.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent; must be enrolled in an Accredited Nursing Program with an anticipated completion from program within 24 months from date of hire.
• In academic good standing in your Accredited Nursing Program REQUIRED.
• Medical Technology; Anatomy and Physiology
• Must be currently enrolled and in good academic standing in a professional nursing program
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
