Job summary

UT Health East Texas is looking for a variable shift, PRN Nurse Extern to support nursing teams under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. This role provides hands-on learning in a busy acute care environment at UT Health Tyler, featuring a Level 1 trauma center and comprehensive stroke center.

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program and in good standing, with a High School Diploma or GED.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED; must be enrolled in an Accredited Nursing Program with an anticipated completion from program within 24 months from date of hire.
In academic good standing in your Accredited Nursing Program REQUIRED.
Medical Technology; Anatomy and Physiology
Must be currently enrolled and in good academic standing in a professional nursing program
BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Responsibilities

Perform functions under direct supervision of a registered nurse.
Carry out basic nursing tasks including patient care, reporting patient conditions, and maintaining equipment and unit cleanliness.
Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients on assigned unit.
