Job summary

UT Health East Texas is seeking a Nurse Extern for a variable shift, PRN position. The extern will work under the direct supervision of a registered nurse and participate in patient care tasks while maintaining equipment and unit cleanliness.

The candidate must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program with anticipated completion within 24 months and in good academic standing; BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; enrolled in accredited nursing program within 24 months of hire.
• Must be currently enrolled and in good academic standing in a professional nursing program.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role.

Responsibilities

• Perform functions under direct supervision of a registered nurse.
• Assist with patient care, report patient conditions, and help maintain equipment and unit cleanliness.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on the unit.
