Job summary

UT Health Jacksonville Hospital is seeking a rotating shift, PRN Labor & Delivery Nurse Extern in Jacksonville, TX. This role supports nursing staff through basic patient care under RN supervision and helps with maintaining a clean, safe unit.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in an accredited nursing program, able to obtain BLS within 14 days of hire, and in good academic standing. This position offers hands-on learning in a Level IV trauma center environment with opportunities for career

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an Accredited Nursing Program with anticipated completion within 24 months from date of hire.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
• Currently enrolled and in good academic standing in a professional nursing program.

Responsibilities

• Perform nursing tasks under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.
• Provide patient care and report patient conditions and changes.
• Maintain equipment and unit cleanliness.
• Demonstrate age-appropriate care for patients on assigned unit.

Get to Know Your Team:

• UT Health Jacksonville features 33 operational beds, an ICU, a 24-hour ED designated as a Level IV trauma center and acute stroke ready facility, a maternity unit, advanced diagnostic technology, surgical suites, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, a wound healing center, and a UT Health East Texas Olympic Center fitness and rehabilitation facility.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for performing functions as authorized under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.


• In addition, performs basic nursing tasks to include patient care, reporting patient conditions, circumstances, and maintaining equipment and unit cleanliness.


• The nurse extern must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.


• Conditions: May be required to work irregular schedules. Potential exposure to hazard materials/situations to include but not limited to, blood-borne pathogens, ionizing radiation, and communicable diseases.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent


• Must be enrolled in an Accredited Nursing Program with an anticipated completion from program within 24 months from date of hire.
