Job summary

Job Description

Job Description Summary Coordinates and plans the administrative activities of the CTEPH and Pulmonary Hypertension clinics. Duties include complex ambulatory appointment scheduling, including multimodality testing for cardiac and pulmonary diseases (right and left heart catheterization, cardiac MRI, stress testing, invasive exercise testing, ventilation/perfusion scanning, CT angiography, pulmonary angiography, pulmonary function testing, 6‑minute walk test, echocardiography), maintaining and updating medical records, triage patient communications to the appropriate provider, and ensuring follow‑up for continuity of care and timeliness of scheduling.

The employee will coordinate and manage a variety of duties associated with daily clinic operations and patient access, including excellent customer service skills, coordination with multiple ancillary testing locations, and strong written and verbal communication skills. This position reports to the CTEPH Medical Director and requires familiarity with medical terms and a minimum degree of Medical Associate.

Responsibilities
  • 35% – Complex ambulatory appointment scheduling, records maintenance, triage, and follow‑up communication with referring providers and patients.
  • 25% – Coordinator for clinical care management, including inpatient/outpatient discharge planning, pulmonary rehab, home care, hospice, medical equipment referrals, pharmaceutical therapy referrals, and triage of phone calls.
  • 10% – Manage authorizations and communications to ensure timely approval of diagnostic procedures and therapies, including third‑party payer negotiations and appeals.
  • 10% – Attend weekly clinic planning and wrap‑up meetings, ensure resources for appointments, schedule CTEPH MDD conference sessions, and manage related materials.
  • 10% – Maintain patient database for referrals, procedures, and protocol implementation for EPIC order sets and therapy revisions.
  • 5% – Provide consultation services and education to providers, patients, and families; conduct in‑service education for staff.
  • 5% – Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Training, and Licensure

Bachelor’s degree in nursing required, along with at least three years of related nursing experience. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state required.

Required Certifications

Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Location and Schedule

Charleston, South Carolina. Monday to Friday, 8‑hour shifts.

Physical Requirements

Continuous standing, walking, and sitting. Ability to bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, use both hands and legs with good dexterity. Requires 20/40 vision correction, latex‑safe environment, indoor work. Frequently lift, lower, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty or confined spaces.
