Job summary

SIMCO, LLC in Carlsbad, New Mexico is seeking a Ventilation Engineer to join the WIPP project. You will help design and maintain a nuclear-grade ventilation system 2,150 feet below the surface, ensuring air quality through HEPA filtration and safety compliance.

The role emphasizes producing technical documentation, performing engineering calculations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support maintenance and operations at the facility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 0–5 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site.
  • Non-U.S. citizens from certain high-security countries may face additional access requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, maintenance and documentation of a new nuclear-grade ventilation system underground.
  • Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.
  • Assist in writing Statements of Work and manage system configuration.
  • Perform system walk downs and engineering calculations (shear, moments and friction loss in ducts).
  • Provide technical support for maintenance activities and facility operations.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement and program management disciplines.

PLC experience
Nuclear-grade ASME codes
DOE facilities experience
System engineering

Education

Engineering degree (0–5 yrs)
Mechanical or Mining Engineering degree

Tools

MSHA (30 CFR Part 57) experience
