Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking two Nuclear Engineering interns for the Prairie Island and Monticello nuclear plants. You will join the reactor engineering group and help monitor reactor cores, analyze trend data, and support process improvements to enhance core and fuel monitoring.

The internship starts May 24, 2027, with potential extension based on performance and business needs. This hybrid, in-person role requires commuting to a designated work location and full-time summer availability.

Qualifications

• Current student, Junior or higher.
• Pursuing a degree in Nuclear Engineering.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) at the designated in-person location per hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Review nuclear core and plant reactor daily trend data.
• Generate procedure change requests for reactor engineering procedures.
• Assist with new nuclear fuel receipt.
• Improve/automate data collection and analysis related to reactor core components and thermal limits.
