Job summary

X Energy, located in Oak Ridge, TN, seeks a Mechanical Construction Field Engineer to plan, coordinate and monitor mechanical construction activities, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and alignment with project schedules and budgets. You will interface with design/construction teams, develop work packages, and resolve constructability issues in the field.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; extensive verifiable experience accepted.
• 20+ years of relevant construction engineering experience.
• Experience with construction of nuclear facilities.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents, specs and shop drawings.

Responsibilities

• Reviews contractor projections and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements.
• Coordinates construction operations impact on external interfaces to align with schedules.
• Enforces field construction management policies, procedures and work rules.
• Supports engineers, foremen, and craft professionals in interpreting technical documents.
• Maintains project document control and ensures up-to-date documents are used.
• Develops and follows integrated installation plans for complex installations.
• Ensures quantities are reported, verified and submitted weekly.
• Oversees Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) development and implementation.
• Coordinates with quality control to ensure inspections and docs are generated.
• Ensures understanding and adherence to project quality requirements by contractors.
• Liaises with project engineers to resolve design and constructability issues.
• Performs front-end scoping reviews and approvals with supervision.
• Works with project controls to review change requests and estimates.
• Ensures construction progress reports and quantity forecasts are accurate.
• Oversees material requisitions and inspections to support scheduling.
• Assists in updating construction schedules.
• Ensures contractors prepare required as-built documents and inspections.
• Oversees system/area turnovers by contractors.
• Maintains professional demeanor in all communications.
