Job summary

X-energy in Rockville, MD is seeking a Licensing Engineer to support reactor licensing efforts with the U.S. NRC. The role interfaces across licensing, engineering, and procurement to advance regulatory content and compliance for advanced reactor technology.

Responsibilities include preparing licensing content, coordinating with internal teams, and leading regulatory engagements. The position emphasizes safety culture, QA integration, and long-term regulatory strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g., mechanical, nuclear, chemical, or electrical) or science (e.g., environmental science, physics, or chemistry).
  • Experience in direct NRC interactions (written and/or verbal).
  • Understanding of the nuclear regulatory processes in the United States.
  • Experience in project management related to developing schedules and coordinating team activities to produce technical content for regulatory purposes.
  • Level II–VI: progressively more licensing experience (two to twenty years).

Responsibilities

  • Support portions of licensing activities (certifications, permits, approvals, and licenses) and ensure milestones are met with the NRC.
  • Provide licensing support to engineers to develop requirements that comply with NRC regulations and guidance.
  • Support scope development of the annual regulatory engagement plan, lead regulatory audits and RAIs responses.
  • Develop licensing content to support portions of Safety Analysis Reports and licensing applications.
  • Support planning and executing the X-energy licensing strategy.
  • Develop regulatory white papers, technical reports, and licensing topical reports.
  • Support development of licensing plans and associated budgets.
  • Actively support the X-energy safety culture and ensure QA integration in licensing processes.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior in all communications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
