X-energy LLC in Rockville, MD is seeking a Licensing Engineer to support reactor licensing efforts and interface with the U.S. NRC. You will contribute to licensing activities, prepare technical content, and coordinate between engineering, program management, and procurement teams.

This role will support portions of licensing application development and interface between internal teams (licensing, engineering, program/project management, supply chain, and procurement) and the U.S. NRC. Licensing Engineers are engaged in environmental licensing, nuclear safety, nuclear security, emergency planning, safeguards, and regulatory compliance for X-energy's advanced high-temperature gas-cooled reactor technology. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to first-of-a-kind advanced reactor projects that define industry-best licensing practices.Job Profile Tasks/ResponsibilitiesSupport portions of licensing activities (certifications, permits, approvals, and licenses associated with reactor technologies) and ensure milestones are met as agreed with the U.S. NRC.Provide licensing support to engineers in developing technical requirements that will ensure compliance with NRC regulations and guidance.Support scope development of the annual regulatory engagement plan, lead regulatory audits and responses to RAIs (Requests for Additional Information).Develop licensing content to support portions of Safety Analysis Reports and licensing applications.Support planning and executing the X-energy licensing strategy.Develop regulatory white papers, technical reports, and licensing topical reports.Support development of licensing plans and associated budgets.Actively support the X-energy safety culture and ensure integration of quality in licensing processes as informed by the X-energy Quality Assurance Program.Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.Perform other duties as assigned by manager.Job Profile Minimum QualificationsAll Levels :Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g., mechanical, nuclear, chemical, or electrical engineering), science (e.g., environmental science, physics, or chemistry), or other related area.Experience in direct NRC interactions (written and/or verbal).Understanding of the nuclear regulatory processes in the United States.Experience in project management related to developing schedules and coordinating team activities to produce technical content for regulatory purposes.Level II : Typically, two years of relevant licensing experience.Level III : Typically, five years of relevant licensing experience.Level IV : Typically, ten years of relevant licensing experience.Level V : Typically, fifteen years of relevant licensing experience.Level VI : Typically, twenty years of relevant licensing experience.Preferred SkillsCandidates for this role would ideally have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas, commensurate with their educational and professional background:Experience with U.S. NRC construction permit and operating license application preparation and/or reviewsKnowledge of high-temperature gas reactor technologies and/or first-of-a-kind nuclear technologiesKnowledge of small modular reactor technical and licensing considerationsKnowledge of U.S. NRC and/or U.S. DOE regulatory requirements for reactor licensingLocation: 530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MDWork Arrangement: 4 Days Onsite per WeekHours: 8:00am-5:00pm, Mon-FriCompensationAs required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.).
