Job summary

X Energy is seeking a licensed engineering professional to support regulatory licensing for its reactor technology at the Gaithersburg, MD site. The role interfaces with licensing, engineering, program management, supply chain, and NRC on topics including safety, security, emergency planning, safeguards, and financial regulation.

Responsibilities include contributing to licensing activities, preparing regulatory content, and assisting with planning, audits, and responses to NRC inquiries.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (e.g. mechanical, nuclear, electrical, physics) or related area.
  • Level II: typically 2 years licensing experience.
  • Level III: typically 5 years licensing experience.
  • Level IV: typically 10 years licensing experience.
  • Level V: typically 15 years licensing experience.
  • Level VI: typically 20 years licensing experience.
  • Experience in direct NRC interactions (written and/or verbal).
  • Understanding of the US nuclear regulatory processes.
  • Experience in project management related to schedules and coordinating teams.

  • Support portions of licensing activities (certifications, permits, approvals, licenses) with NRC milestones.
  • Provide licensing support to engineers ensuring NRC compliance.
  • Support annual regulatory engagement plan, lead regulatory audits and RAI responses.
  • Develop licensing content for Safety Analysis Reports and licensing applications.
  • Support planning and executing X-energy licensing strategy.
  • Develop regulatory white papers and licensing topical reports.
  • Support licensing plans and budgets.
  • Maintain safety culture and QA adherence in licensing processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

This role is responsible for supporting the development of reactor licensing efforts and associated engagements with the U.S. NRC. This role will support portions of licensing application development and interface between internal teams (licensing, engineering, program/project management, supply chain, and procurement) and the U.S. NRC. This includes relevant topic areas of nuclear safety, nuclear security, emergency planning, safeguards, and financial primarily applied to the X-energy reactor technology.

Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities
  • Support portions of licensing activities (certifications, permits, approvals, and licenses associated with reactor technologies) and ensure milestones are met as agreed with the U.S. NRC.
  • Provide licensing support to engineers in developing technical requirements that will ensure compliance with NRC regulations and guidance.
  • Support scope development of the annual regulatory engagement plan, lead regulatory audits and responses to RAI’s (Requests for Additional Information).
  • Develop licensing content to support portions of Safety Analysis Reports and licensing applications.
  • Support planning and executing the X-energy licensing strategy.
  • Develop regulatory white papers, technical reports, and licensing topical reports.
  • Support development of licensing plans and associated budgets.
  • Actively support the X-energy safety culture and ensure integration of quality in licensing processes as informed by the X-energy Quality Assurance Program.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Job Profile Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (e.g. mechanical, nuclear, electrical, physics) or other related area.
  • Level II: Typically, two years of relevant licensing experience.
  • Level III: Typically, five years of relevant licensing experience.
  • Level IV: Typically, ten years of relevant licensing experience.
  • Level V: Typically, fifteen years of relevant licensing experience.
  • Level VI: Typically, twenty years of relevant licensing experience.
  • Experience in direct NRC interactions (written and/or verbal).
  • Understanding of the nuclear regulatory processes in the United States.
  • Experience in project management related to developing schedules and coordinating team activities to produce technical content for regulatory purposes.
Preferred Experience in the areas of:
  • Nuclear safety analyses and methods
  • NEI 18-04/LMP implementation
  • Probabilistic Risk Assessments
