Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in Site 300 near Tracy, CA, seeks a Construction Manager to lead complex construction projects, coordinating with subcontractors, facility operations, and program stakeholders to ensure safety, quality, and timely delivery.

This on-site role requires experience with nuclear/radiation-hazard facilities, strong project controls, and the ability to mentor teams while aligning with PMO and DOE requirements.

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience.
  • Significant experience leading construction or infrastructure projects, including renovations, utility upgrades, site development, facility modifications, new facilities, and specialized mechanical or electrical work.
  • Experience working in active, high-hazard, nuclear, radiation-hazardous, security-sensitive, or operational facilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction management methods; drawings, specifications, materials, and applicable codes; and DOE, Laboratory, OSHA, NEC, NFPA 70E, ES&H, security, quality, and environmental requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project scope, schedule, budget, contracts, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, multidisciplinary teams, risks, change, quality, safety, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
  • Experience performing constructability reviews; resolving RFIs, submittals, technical documents, field conditions, construction methods, and subcontractor-deliverable issues; and implementing safety, quality assurance, testing, inspection, hold-point, shutdown, Lockout/Tagout, commissioning, turnover, and closeout processes.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication, facilitation, negotiation, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills; proficiency with project-management, scheduling, cost-control, and document-control software, such as Procore or comparable systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate complex construction projects, subcontractors, inspectors, project teams, facility stakeholders, and lower-tier contractors; lead associated preconstruction, coordination, progress, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Provide construction management expertise throughout the project lifecycle, including planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, turnover, closeout, and audit-ready records management.
  • Define, manage, and monitor project scope, execution methods, schedules, budgets, contracts, risks, quality, safety, change, productivity, and project controls; implement corrective actions and recovery strategies as needed.
  • Coordinate work in active, high-hazard, nuclear, radiation-hazardous, security-sensitive, and operational facilities.
  • Conduct constructability reviews and resolve design and construction issues involving drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, schedules, field conditions, construction methods, and subcontractor deliverables; develop practical, cost-conscious solutions.
  • Develop and implement project-specific safety and quality plans, including job hazard analyses and subcontractor safety programs; coordinate inspections, testing, hold points, shutdowns, Lockout/Tagout activities, commissioning, turnover, compliant installations, and required documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership for electrical and specialized systems.
  • Communicate project status, decisions, risks, issues, and recommendations to project teams, facility representatives, customers, senior management, contractors, and DOE stakeholders.
  • Mentor construction professionals and contribute to training, knowledge transfer, and workforce development.
  • Support compliance with DOE Orders, Laboratory and PMO policies, ES&H requirements, applicable codes, standards, and contract requirements.
