Job summary

General Matter in Los Angeles is offering a Summer 2027 Civil Engineering internship focused on environmental initiatives at a nuclear fuel cycle facility. You will assist in designing, analyzing, and evaluating civil infrastructure with regulatory and nuclear-safety alignment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Civil or Environmental Engineering degree; solid engineering fundamentals.
• Familiarity with industry standards for industrial facility construction and environmental compliance.
• Able to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment and learn quickly.

Responsibilities

• Assist design and evaluation of stormwater systems and foundation designs for nuclear-related infra.
• Support regulatory compliance with NRC, EPA, DOE and state rules.
• Assist soil stability, groundwater protection, flood mitigation, and seismic resilience work.
• Help design waste handling and storage systems to minimize environmental impact.
• Contribute to hydrology and stormwater management to control runoff.
• Support structural analyses for natural hazards and aging infrastructure.
• Collaborate with engineers, health physicists, and regulators to develop holistic solutions.
• Track project schedules, budgets, and safety requirements.
• Develop mitigation plans for flooding, erosion, and containment in emergencies.
