Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC seeks an Advanced Practice Provider to deliver comprehensive inpatient oncology care within a multidisciplinary team, coordinating care with Unity, Sibley, and Howard and other providers as appropriate.

Responsibilities include evaluating and managing hospitalized oncology patients, addressing acute oncologic complications, and educating patients and families while ensuring safe transitions of care across the continuum.

Qualifications

• Active licensure from the DC DOH as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the ANCC or AANP.
• Certification as a Physician Assistant by the NCCPA.
• DC Controlled Substances License.
• Federal DEA License.
• Current BLS Certification.
• Current ACLS Certification.

• Provide comprehensive inpatient oncology care in support of the Solid Tumor Malignancy service.
• Independently assess, diagnose, and manage hospitalized oncology patients, including acute oncologic complications.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary care with physicians, nursing, pharmacy, case management, palliative care, and other services to optimize outcomes.
• Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic studies; prescribe medications and supportive therapies within scope.
• Provide patient, family, and caregiver education regarding cancer diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
• Provide clinical coverage in the ambulatory oncology setting.

Overview

The Advanced Practice Provider works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team and is responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive and age‑appropriate care to both well and ill patients; educating patients and families, intervening in acute or chronic illness, coordinating oncologic care between Unity, Sibley and Howard and other providers as appropriate; obtaining appropriate patient histories and performing physical examinations. Other activities support patient/family education, staff education, unit activities, and psychosocial care of patient and family.

Sibley Memorial Hospital is a non‑profit, full‑service 318‑bed acute‑care community hospital serving the Washington, DC area. It offers medical, surgical, intensive care, obstetric, oncology, orthopaedic, and skilled nursing inpatient services, and a state‑of‑the‑art 24‑hour Emergency Department. The campus also hosts the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, the Johns Hopkins National Proton Therapy Center, Grand Oaks assisted living residence, a medical building with physician offices, and an ambulatory surgery and imaging center.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive inpatient oncology care in support of the Solid Tumor Malignancy service.
• Independently assess, diagnose, and manage hospitalized oncology patients, including evaluation and treatment of acute oncologic complications, development of evidence‑based plans of care, and coordination of daily management in collaboration with the attending physician and interdisciplinary team.
• Recognize, evaluate, and manage oncologic emergencies, initiating timely interventions and escalating care as clinically indicated.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary care with physicians, nursing, pharmacy, case management, palliative care, and other consulting services to optimize patient outcomes, facilitate safe transitions of care, and ensure continuity across the care continuum.
• Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic studies; prescribe medications, supportive oncology therapies, blood products, and symptom‑management treatments within scope of practice; and perform approved bedside procedures in accordance with departmental credentialing and institutional policies.
• Provide patient, family, and caregiver education regarding cancer diagnoses, treatment plans, symptom management, goals of care, discharge planning, and follow‑up care.
• Provide clinical coverage in the ambulatory oncology setting.

Preferred Education

• Nurse Practitioner: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing for NP for MSN (NP) and an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (NP).
• Physician Assistant: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC‑PA).

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

• Active licensure from the DC DOH as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
• Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission for Certification of the Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• DC Controlled Substances License.
• Federal DEA License.
• Current BLS Certification.
• Current ACLS Certification.

Preferred Experience

Preferred experience in medical oncology, including both inpatient and ambulatory (outpatient) oncology practice.

Salary

Minimum $63.31/hour – Maximum $98.13/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
