Job summary

HDR Engineering is currently seeking a Substation Project Engineer to join our growing Power Delivery team in the Anchorage area and other preferred locations. The role focuses on substation design, protection and control, and coordination with multiple departments to ensure successful project delivery.

Ideal candidates have a PE license, 4+ years in substation design, and proficiency with design software such as PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe and Revit. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in substation design.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Experience with design software such as PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe and Revit.

Responsibilities

• Support preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets, and ensure that schedules and budgets are met.
• Understand substation design including yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, power systems, and BOMs.
• Understand protection and control design including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, wiring.
• Prepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC load studies).
• Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing
• Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line).
• Communicate and coordinate project activities with manager, clients, and others as needed.
• May mentor and supervise junior EITs and Designers.
