Job summary

Advanced Energy United seeks a solutions-oriented Managing Director to lead policy advocacy in the Northeast and oversee a dispersed team of advocates. You will shape strategies, engage with members and partners, and drive multi-year campaigns advancing 100% clean energy and electrified transportation.

The role requires a background in state or federal issue advocacy, experience with clean energy, and the ability to align teams across programs to meet policy objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s and/or advanced degree in Political Science, Public Policy, or Economics, or applicable comparable experience.
• Minimum of ten years of professional experience in public policy, with a portion in clean energy or transportation.
• Experience managing a team in a remote environment.
• Viewed as a subject matter expert in a specific focus area.
• Political campaign or organizing experience, preferably in clean energy advocacy.
• Entrepreneurial approach, flexible attitude, and ability to operate independently, aligned with United’s mission.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of political and policy strategies to accelerate the transition to 100% clean energy and electrified transportation.
• Manage a geographically dispersed advocacy team and lobbyists on the ground.
• Collaborate across policy teams to meet short- and long-term objectives, including legislative and regulatory engagement.
• Engage members to develop policy positions and facilitate consensus on priorities.
• Ensure high-quality member engagement opportunities through direct decision-maker engagement, lobby days, and testimony.
