Job summary

Children’s Law Center of California is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead a four-person finance team and oversee day-to-day accounting operations in a hybrid role based in Monterey Park.

You will drive month-end close, grant accounting, and tax reporting while ensuring audit-ready documentation and strong internal controls. A Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of accounting experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years supervising accounting staff.
• Deep knowledge of nonprofit GAAP, fund accounting, and tracking restricted assets.
• Hands-on experience with multi-funder government contracts and grant compliance.
• Direct experience managing annual 1099 filings and California Sales & Use Tax returns.
• Proficiency in Financial Edge NXT and advanced Excel (pivots, lookups, models).
• Commitment to audit-ready verification using primary source documents.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of four accounting professionals with coaching and supervision.
• Act as primary operational backup for staff duties during absences or peak workloads.
• Review government contracts and grant agreements to ensure proper costing and reporting.
• Oversee grant reimbursements, billings, and compliance reporting to funders.
• Manage month-end close with reconciliations, journal entries, and close governance.
• Prepare audit-ready financial statements and variance analysis for leadership.
