Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital is hiring an EEG Technician to support continuous neurodiagnostic monitoring and patient care. The role requires careful electrode placement, artifact reduction, and coordination with nursing staff for video monitoring and data collection.

The ideal candidate has an Associate's Degree in Electroneurodiagnostics and ABRET certification within two years, plus BLS. Two years of direct patient care can substitute for the degree, with EEG trainee program completion

Responsibilities

• Select predetermined electrode combinations to obtain recordings and eliminate artifacts.
• Monitor on the same apparatus other variables such as EMG, ECG, EOG, and respiration.
• Observe patient with video recording equipment and ensure EEG and tape alignment.
• Set up patient for continuous monitoring at the bedside with video if indicated.
• Instruct nursing staff on using event button and care of videos.
• Abstract relevant information from patient records and obtain additional data.
• Other duties as requested.

A caregiver in this role will work Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm, or 7:30am - 4:00pm.

Job Description

Responsibilities

• Selects predetermined electrode combinations (montages) to obtain recordings, recognizes artifacts and takes appropriate steps to eliminate them.
• Monitors on the same apparatus, other variables such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electro-oculograms, respiration, etc.
• Observes patient with video recording equipment; ensures EEG and tape are lined up exactly; checks focus, lighting and microphone.
• Sets-up patient for continuous monitoring at the bedside with video, if indicated.
• Instructs nursing staff on pushing event button and care of videos.
• Abstracts relevant information from the patients clinical record and obtains additional information.
• Other duties as requested.

Education

• Associate's Degree in Electroneurodiagnostics or related patient care field.

Certifications

• Technologist must successfully obtain the ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) credentialing for R. EEG T. (Registered EEG Technologist) within two years of hire into this position.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross certification required.

Complexity of Work

• Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment.

Work Experience

• Two years direct patient care experience may substitute for the Associate's Degree requirement.
• Completion of an EEG Technician Trainee Program

Physical Requirements

• Manual dexterity in order to place electrodes precisely and to operate recording equipment.
• Ability to push and maneuver EEG machine weighing 320 pounds and Evoked Potential machine weighing 420 pounds.
• Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
• Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $20.77

Maximum hourly: $31.68
